Blending technology and education, dual-enrollment public speaking students at La Joya Early College are harnessing the power of Apple's Vision Pro to elevate their public speaking abilities. The device, which projects users into virtual environments, is providing students with new experiences as they study the art and science of communication.
Under the guidance of their instructor, Mr. Luis Alaniz, students can practice their speeches in simulated settings ranging from grand auditoriums to small meeting rooms. The immersive experience allows them to refine their delivery, use of visual aids, and adapt their movements to different venues.
“The moment I saw what the Vision Pro could do, I knew it could be a game-changer for learning,” Alaniz said. “It’s one thing to imagine your audience and setting, but it’s entirely another to see yourself in that space with this level and quality of immersion.”
Katelyn Peña, a student in the class, shared her excitement about the new technology.
“It’s like you’re actually there, which really helps in managing stage fright. Being able to practice in a huge virtual auditorium makes the real thing feel less intimidating,” she said.
Assistant Principal Dr. Romeo Benavidez, who has a background in teaching through virtual environments, shares the enthusiasm for innovative educational tools.
“Incorporating virtual reality into our teaching methods opens up new avenues for learning and engagement,” Dr. Benavidez said. “It’s about providing our students with experiences that prepare them for the future.”
As the semester progresses, Dr. Benavidez, Alaniz, and several teachers plan to explore additional ways to utilize virtual and augmented reality across other subjects and courses.
“We’re just scratching the surface of how we can use this technology to enrich our students’ education,” Alaniz said.
