La Joya Early College High School students made a strong showing at the South Texas College Department of Communication's spring competition, with teams from Mr. Luis Alaniz's Speech Dual Enrollment courses capturing first and third place honors. This year's competition focused on a 30-second video project, a change from previous years that featured speech contests.
Participants were tasked with producing a 30-second video that effectively promoted any STC major. The videos were judged based on creativity, audio quality, visual quality, and adherence to the time requirement.
The La Joya Early College students distinguished themselves among the competitors, securing first and third place.
"I'm incredibly proud of our students' achievements," said Alaniz. "Their success in this competition is a testament to their creativity and technical skills. These are young students with cell phones, basic editing apps, and no experience filming or editing, yet they are producing solid creative work."
This is not the first time La Joya Early College High School students have succeeded in this contest. In previous years, they demonstrated their skills and dedication, earning top positions for delivering speeches.
"At the last competition, where students delivered a persuasive speech, La Joya Early College students also took home 1st and 3rd places. This consistency highlights our caliber of students here," said Alaniz.
The first-place team consisted of Agustin Salinas, Lourdes Robinson, and Mariangel Tijerina. Their video impressed the judges with its creativity and high-quality production. The third-place team included Adrian Mercado, Alexis Lopez, Christian Rosas, and Leandro Gomez, who also delivered an outstanding video that met all the competition criteria.
